#Act4 AnimalsEU Eurogroup for Animals welcomes the publication of the European Commission’s communication on the review of Trade and Sustainable Development (TSD) Chapters. The fact that such a review was made ahead of schedule is appreciated considering the need to ensure coherence between the EU’s ambitious Green Deal agenda and its trade policy. Yet, the proposals fall short of what’s needed to ensure trade policy does not hinder our transition towards sustainable food systems. European Commission proposal to strengthen Trade & Sustainable Development Chapters falls short 22 June 2022

#Act4 AnimalsEU On 20 May, EU trade ministers will adopt their conclusions on the Trade Policy Review. As the review failed to address the impact of trade on animals, and to adapt EU trade policy to the challenges we face in the 21st century, we call on the EU to make a u-turn and finally ensure that its trade policy does not fuel unsustainable trade. Renegotiating the EU-Mercosur agreement to align the FTA with the objectives expressed in the Farm to Fork Strategy would be a first step in the right direction. The EU should make the EU-Mercosur Agreement compatible with the Green Deal and the Farm to Fork strategy 20 May 2021

#Act4 AnimalsEU While the announcements made by the EU institutions on the revision of the so-called “Enforcement Regulation” on trade disputes foresaw stronger enforcement mechanisms for Trade and Sustainable Development (TSD) provisions contained in trade agreements, the draft text adopted at the European Parliament’s plenary session on 21st January does not reflect the awaited progress.
