Yesterday, the EP adopted a resolution on improving EU regulation through an EU positive list of (wild and exotic) pets. This was the direct result of a petition and subsequent debate at PETI Committee from Eurogroup for Animals and our members AAP and Dyrenes Beskyttelse. Excitingly, it’s the second EP Resolution in as many months with encouraging language on an EU positive list. It’s a strong message to the Commission to expand upon their initial commitment for a feasibility study on the EU positive list in the revised Action Plan against Wildlife Trafficking.

Thousands of Danish young calves are starving and thirsty on long-distance journeys out of the country, according to a report published today by Animal Protection Denmark. The calves stay in the trucks for up to 17 hours in conditions neither in accordance with Danish or EU law. Animal Protection Denmark is calling for a Danish ban on the long-distance transport of unweaned young calves.

On Tuesday 17 May Eurogroup for Animals along with its members organisations Animal Protection Denmark and AAP were invited to the PETI Committee meeting to give a presentation on the Positive List. This meeting came at the right time with the AGRIFISH Council meeting on Tuesday 24 May and the ongoing revision of the Action Plan against Wildlife Trafficking.

Equine chorionic gonadotropin (eCG), also called Pregnant Mare Serum Gonadotropin (PMSG), is a hormone extracted from the blood of pregnant mares. It is used in intensive agriculture to increase the reproductive performance of farm animals such as pigs, sheep, goats and cattle.

The Statens Serum Institut has published their long-awaited health assessment regarding the reopening of Danish mink farms. The government of Denmark currently has a temporary ban on mink breeding in place until 2023 following a COVID-19 outbreak in several hundred mink farms, which resulted in the country’s entire mink population being culled.

March 8th is International Women's Day: a day to celebrate women's accomplishments, challenge inequality and acknowledge the need for gender equality. History gives us countless examples of women who have stood up for those who have no voice. At Eurogroup for Animals, we pay tribute today to Britta Riis, CEO at Dyrenes Beskyttelse and President of the World Federation for Animals, whose work as a passionate animal advocate has changed the world for the better.
