#Act4 Aquatics Yesterday, at the Agriculture and Fisheries Council meeting (AGRIFISH), EU Member States discussed the achievements and shortcomings of the Union’s Common Fishery Policy (CFP). At this occasion, the Council of the EU only narrowly fell short of adopting strong Council conclusions calling for fish welfare to be included in the next CFP. A majority of Member States called today for a ban on fur farming and asked the European Commission (EC) to examine the possibility of a ban on the placement of farmed fur products on the European market, supporting the recently submitted Fur Free Europe ECI. #Act4 FarmAnimals Eurogroup for Animals welcomes the recent vote in the European Parliament on the Commission’s proposal to strengthen geographical indications, a quality label for agricultural and wine products. The proposal identified that consumer concerns about animal welfare and sustainability are not adequately protected at present, which is welcome having in mind animal abuses previously denounced in the production of prestigious products like Parmigiano Reggiano or Jamon Serrano.
