Truck drivers in horror queue at Polish border: 'My chickens are dying'

20 March 2020
Investigation
Anyone who wants to cross the Polish border must fill out forms and have the temperature measured, resulting in horror queues. This creates distressing conditions, especially for drivers who transport livestock.

"I drove through it three times in the past few days," says truck driver Albert van Hoven. He drives back and forth with live chickens between the Netherlands, Germany and Poland.

"We are lucky that temperatures are not above thirty degrees, otherwise they would all have been dead." But even with the current temperature of 9 degrees, the long wait at the border is very bad for the welfare of the animals. Some chickens have lost their lives, says the trucker.
