Live export company 'Emanuel Exports' loses its licence after deaths of 2,500 sheep

One of the world’s largest exporters of animals will no longer be able to operate. After battling the company for the past 15 years, Animals Australia welcomes the decision of the regulator to cancel permanently Emanuel Exports licence.
The company has been responsible for shipping the majority of the 200 million sheep that have been sent from Australia to the Middle East over the past forty years. Over 1.5 million defenceless animals have died on their vessels – and through the courage and compassion of a crewman Fazal Ullah – the world now knows the egregious suffering that this company was willing to accept for decades.
“[The department] has taken action against this company in the best interests of the industry and for the protection of Australia’s high standards of animal welfare and health,” it said in a statement issued overnight.
