Help stop the killing of stray dogs in Azerbaijan

13 February 2019
News
Although the Republic of Azerbaijan signed the European Convention for the Protection of Pets in 2003 and has been in force since 2008 (1), homeless dog killings in the capital Baku and other regions are reported time and again.

As we published in 2015, homeless dog killings are increasing especially before major events, such as the upcoming Formula 1 races in April 2019. Although there is also a legal regulation for the protection of animals (2) in addition to the European Convention, no intervention by the responsible authorities is in sight.

According to reports, the local authorities not only allow the dogs to be killed, but also apparently encourage them or carry them out themselves.
