Every month, we interview one of our member organisations about their work, main battles and achievements for animals. This month, we are pleased to interview Alexandra Morette, President of Code Animal in France.

On November 18, the French Senate definitively adopted a new animal protection bill “aimed at combating animal abuse and strengthening the link between animals and humans”. This success follows an agreement on the measures by a joint commission (composed of deputies and senators) on October 21, and an almost unanimous adoption at the National Assembly on November 16.

A joint commission (composed of deputies and senators) reached an agreement this Thursday, October 21st, on the bill which aims to strengthen the fight against animal abuse, opening the way to its rapid adoption.

The French Minister for the Ecological Transition, Barbara Pompili, announced on 29 September 2020 the gradual ban on the use of wild animals in travelling circuses and on mink farming. As well as the end of the captivity of dolphins and orcas in inadequate dolphinaria, and the implementation of support to improve the detention of wild animals in zoos.

Twenty five French animal welfare and animal rights associations, including our member organisations Fondation Brigitte Bardot, L214, Code Animal, C'est Assez!, WELFARM and CiWF France have launched a referendum asking for better legislation for animals in France.

Registration will be open until 2 April for the conference “Facing the emergency: Let's create refuges and sanctuaries for wild animals”, organised by the Vice-President of the Animal Condition Commission, Claire O 'Petit, the French association Code Animal and the Dutch organization AAP Animal Advocacy and Protection.
