Wildlife Trophy Imports into EU Countries
The signatories to this letter, representing a wide range of international organisations with an interest in wildlife conservation, urge the European Commission and its Member States to consider adopting a moratorium on all imports of hunting trophies derived from species listed on the CITES/WTR appendices.
As you will be aware, the killing of Cecil the lion in Zimbabwe last month has generated a great deal of public outrage and concern about the ethicality and sustainability of trophy hunting.
While the particular case involved an American national, hunters from the European Union (EU) continue to be significant importers of wildlife trophies.
