Slaughterhouses have great difficulty recruiting staff. And the government supervision of slaughterhouses has been failing for years. But the extreme cost-price drive of meat production is at the root of the structural nature of these terrible incidents.
And again two weeks ago it became apparent that serious animal suffering takes place in slaughterhouses. Pigs sometimes miserably end up in trays of hot water. It is good that a majority in the House of Representatives is signing up to make camera surveillance compulsory. But more is needed to prevent these horrific events.
