Made in collaboration with the Italian tv show Le Iene, LAV's investigation was broadcast on February 20, showing sick and dead pigs together with healthy pigs in spaces with serious sanitary deficiencies. 

Roberto Bennati, Vice President of LAV urged the responsible authorities to act as this is not the first time LAV revealed the reality of pig farms in Italy: “Once again it is our investigations and television investigations that show dramatic realities for animals, illegal and with important profiles in terms of health safety and environmental impact”, says Bennati.

Although funded by the EU, the farm was shown to lack any animal welfare standards. Even more so, according to the European Commission, Italy is among the countries that are not compliant with the EU Pig Directive, under the threat to start an infringement procedure. For this reason LAV urges responsible authorities to to set up transparency mechanisms on the control checks carried out by the veterinary services and increase transparency that would allow consumers to see the truth behind the industrial farming conditions.
