Our member Compassion in World Farming France is involved in the development of the Planet-Score initiative, an environmental labelling system that allows consumers to compare the sustainability of food products based on 4 criteria: animal welfare, impact on biodiversity, effect on climate change and pesticide use. The result is a composite format that presents these four indicators together with an aggregated score (from A to E).

On 19 May, the jury of Retail for Good, composed of 9 CSR managers and experts, awarded the Planet-Score environmental labelling system with the first prize at a ceremony in Paris.

Agathe Gignoux, Public Affairs Manager at Compassion in World Farming France, member of the Planet-score coalition, explains:

The fact that the jury explicitly mentions the importance of indicating the farming method, based on key animal welfare criteria, sends out a strong signal: stakeholders are ready to support the changes expected by citizens, on all dimensions of our food system, in relation to the current environmental challenges.”

The Planet-score coalition continues to deploy the label to all actors in favour of truly sustainable approaches.

In order to meet the demands for transparency expressed by citizens, but also by companies, the development is currently underway in France, the United Kingdom and 6 other European countries (Spain, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Italy and Switzerland). About 120 companies are currently testing the Planet-Score.
