Animal welfare is a concern for more and more French people. Members of the French Parliament understood this, and a referendum of shared initiative gathered more than 500,000 signatures. NGOs keep denouncing the conditions of breeding or slaughtering animals, through many shocking investigations. And they also criticize their transport conditions.

Thirty-seven million cattles and one billion chickens are transported through Europe every year. The European Commission regularly denounces drifts, especially in the event of strong heat. How is the transport of animals really going? How is it controlled? "Envoye Special" investigated, and what the journalists discovered is that sometimes it is far, very far from European laws...
