Milk consumption in France falls

Milk consumption continues to decline in France.

According to figures published Tuesday May 14 by the professional union Syndilait, the French absorbed 2.9 billion liters in 2018, including 2.3 billion liters purchased in supermarkets - a volume down 3.3% compared to to 2017.

This consumption corresponds to an average of 45.5 liters per year per inhabitant. Compared to the 61 liter ratio still reached fifteen years ago, this represents a drop of almost 25%. The explanations behind this trend are manifold, ranging from the lesser place of breakfast in eating habits to the distrust of some regarding the advertised benefits of dairy products.
