In Mexico City live itinerant markets won't be allowed to sell animals anymore, as established in the Official Gazette as of this August.

The sale of animals will be sanctioned with the suspension of work for up to ninety days, the removal of the representative from the position or the cancellation of the registration.

According to the organization Animal Equality Mexico, this decision adds to the recent ban in Zapopan, Jalisco, of the sale and slaughter of animals on public roads. It also aligns with the 2019 reforms to the Penal Code that criminalize cruelty to farm animals.
