Investigation reveals cruelty in halal slaughter of calves

News
For halal or kosher meat, the calves are not stunned before being slaughtered.

At the Sobeval slaughterhouse in the Dordogne, nearly 700 calves are killed each day, i.e. 90 animals each hour. Part of the Dutch Van Drie group, it is one of the largest calf slaughterhouses in France. The meat from this slaughterhouse can be certified Label Rouge, organic or Saveurs du Périgord. The skins of the animals are sold to tanneries supplying major French luxury brands, such as Chanel .

For halal or kosher slaughter, calves are generally bled without prior stunning. Some are suspended, still conscious on the slaughter line. They can agonize for long minutes before dying.

Sign the petition to stop this and to support L214's call on the French Agriminister to ban ritual slaughter.
