Last week the city of Gothenburg announced that from April 1 vegan food would no longer be offered in preschool canteens. A notice from the city administration stated: "Since the preschool administration is to provide all children with nutritious food, vegan diet will not be served."

The reactions to the decision came quickly and were strong. Djurens Rätt criticized the decision. The Left Party, the Environment Party and the Feminist Initiative local parties issued a joint press release in which they criticized the decision and, over the weekend, 5,000 citizens signed a petition against the decision.

On Monday 3 March, in an email to Djurens Rätt, Gothenburg's authorities announced that the preschool administration had changed its mind - which means that vegan food will carry on being served in preschools in Gothenburg in the future.
