If his stock becomes too large, he has to sell, as he did last spring: For five pregnant animals, he found a buyer in Russia who had "paid a decent price", 1075 euros for each Holstein-Friesian breed. Siemann has already had surplus cows transported to Turkey or Egypt.

In the future, however, he will no longer be able to sell his animals as easily as before. This is due to the official veterinarian who is responsible for the collection point from which the cattle are transported from Schleswig-Holstein. The veterinarian has been refusing to authorize export to countries outside the EU for several months. The situation is similar in Bavaria and Hesse: the veterinarians responsible there have also stopped such long-distance journeys.
