Federal Agriculture Minister Julia Klöckner is taking part in the European Agricultural Council in Brussels today.

An important item on the agenda is the protection of animals during transport at high temperatures in the summer months.

“Transporting animals in midsummer at over 30 degrees is legally prohibited. And rightly so! Then there must be no approval - the federal states are responsible for the approvals and rejections, including compliance with the regulations, "said Klöckner. Unfortunately, however, there were clearances in Germany in the summer months of 2017 and 2018 at too high temperatures, one showed Ministry review.

The BMEL is therefore in exchange with the countries concerned. "My clear expectation is that the requirements of the EU Animal Welfare Transport Ordinance will be enforced consistently and consistently. We have asked everyone involved to fulfill their animal welfare obligations. Close cooperation with the other EU member states is also important here."
