A label for animal-friendly meat. It already exists in the Netherlands, but Flemish Minister for Animal Welfare Ben Weyts (N-VA) now wants to introduce it throughout Flanders.

Former Boerenbond CEO Piet Vanthemsche has to work out the system in the coming months, Het Nieuwsblad writes.

A fair trade label for products that are made in a fair way already exists. Just like a label for organically grown products. But an animal welfare label does not yet exist. Minister Weyts would have liked to have worked with the Dutch for Flanders, but that appears to be impossible. He therefore changes the gun and now takes Piet Vanthemsche under his arm to create a system for the whole of Flanders.

Whoever does not want a chicken, but a normally bred hen on his plate, will be able to find it clearly in the store. That will be a lot more expensive, it is said.
