Several Civil Society organisations working at national and international level, including Eurogroup for Animals urged in a letter send to European Commission’s President, José Manuel Barroso, to address intensive livestock’s detrimental impact on resource efficiency, the environment, human health and animal welfare.

This comes in light of the EU Conference “Averting Farmageddon: Sustainable Food for All” recently organised in Brussels by the Greek Presidency of the EU and Compassion in World Farming, and in connection with last year’s European Commission’s public consultation on sustainability of the food system, which focused on the interconnected impacts of intensive animal agriculture on people, the planet and animals and the positive solutions available to us.
