Dutch Food Safety Authority has laid down in the conditions that cattle export will be refused if the temperature at EU-Turkish border is expected to exceed 30°C
The committee calls on Member States not to allow long-distance animal transport if predicted temperatures exceed 30 degrees.
Minister Carola Schouten writes in a letter to the House of Representatives that the call from the European Commission will be discussed at the next meeting of agricultural ministers. The current animal transport regulations do not state at which outside temperature transporters may still carry out animal transport.
National plan
A national plan for extreme temperatures has been drawn up in the Netherlands. It states that the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority no longer issues export papers from 35 degrees. The minister says that he will talk to the Dutch livestock sectors about the European Commission's proposals. "I share the concerns of the European Commission," says Schouten.
