Following the Coronavirus outbreak, Eurogroup for Animals and several of its members have participated in a joint open letter targeting the World Health Organization, the World Organisation for Animal Health OIE and the UN Environment Programme.

The letter, co-signed with some of our member organizations, calls on the World Health Organization, the World Organisation for Animal Health OIE and the UN Environment Programme to work closely with Governments across the world in order to end the exploitation of wild animals for trade.

Specifically, the NGOs coalition encourages governments to shut down wildlife markets and to reduce the demand for wild animals and wildlife products, in order to mitigate risks for human health, while also helping to reduce threats to biodiversity and animal welfare.
