Registration will be open until 2 April for the conference “Facing the emergency: Let's create refuges and sanctuaries for wild animals”, organised by the Vice-President of the Animal Condition Commission, Claire O 'Petit, the French association Code Animal and the Dutch organization AAP Animal Advocacy and Protection.

It will be held on Thursday April 9, 2020 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Palais Bourbon (National Assembly) in Paris.

In 2019, the Minister's office asked Code Animal to work on the concept of sanctuaries for wild animals kept for entertainment in France and to draft strategy for wild animals when they are no longer on show. What emerges from the informal national consultation is indeed the lack of rescue facilities in France and the administrative “headache” that results from it; as well as the legal vagueness around these concepts: sanctuaries, refuges, rescue centers.

Thus this conference will be an opportunity to give a voice to the actors dealing with these problems on a daily basis in France but also at European level. The aim of the conference is to propose solutions which will, very probably, be taken up during a parliamentary information committee.
