The new Implementing Decision aims to harmonise reporting between Member States and provide a centralised platform that can ease the national authorities job, and improve access to and transparency of information.

The Commission published its Implementing Decision establishing a common format and information content for the submission of the information to be reported by Member States pursuant to Directive 2010/63/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes. This Implementing Decision replaces Commission Implementing Decision 2012/707/EU and provides details of the information that Member States need to report regarding:

  • the statistics on the use of animals for scientific purposes;

  • the non-technical summaries and any updates on animal-based projects authorised by the Member State competent authority.

  • Details on implementation aspects if this Directive, including the functioning of competent authorities and other bodies regulating the use of animals in science, exceptions granted where the use of animals is, in principle, not allowed, inspections of establishments holding animals to be used in scientific procedures.
