CATS PROTECTION: New petition calls for compulsory microchipping of owned cats in the UK

The UK Government recently announced that they will shortly be issuing a call for evidence on whether to introduce compulsory microchipping for cats in England. Cats Protection is hoping that the UK will follow European countries such as France and Belgium, who have already introduced compulsory microchipping of cats.
Eight out of 10 stray cats that Cats Protection’s UK adoption centres take in are sadly not microchipped. Cats roam and may become lost, but a microchip gives a lost cat the best chance of being safely reunited with its owner. Microchips also provide closure to owners whose cats have been victims of road traffic accidents.
We believe #microchipping of owned #cats should be compulsory, just as it is for dogs – to help make sure lost moggies can be reunited with their owner.

Compulsory microchipping of dogs is already in force across the UK. Please help Cats Protection to ensure cats in the UK are treated fairly and have the same chance as dogs of being reunited with their owners if they go missing.
