Het Beter Leven keurmerk of animal protection continues to grow and so farmers keep their animals more animal-friendly, according to the annual figures published today.

The Animal Protection Agency expects to reach 40 million animals by 2020 according to the criteria of the label.

That would mean a doubling in less than five years. "That is very nice, but we must realize that still 92% of the animals in the livestock industry do not fall under the better living conditions of our star system," says director Co’tje Admiraal of the Dierenbescherming. She therefore urges the consumer to “if you want to eat meat, do less, grab it and get the hang of it.” Today is the kick-off of the annual Beter Leven week to get attention continue to ask for the Beter leven quality mark, because that is still necessary.
