Austrian Federal Minister joined the Dutch Government in stopping the export of live animals to and through the Russian Federation in case the implementation of the Council Regulation 1/2005 cannot be ensured.

This is de facto a ban that will also include the exports of live animals through and to Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Additionally, it will apply to all the species. It will regulate exports for which a control post is needed and information on their existence and capacity is poor. This trade has an annual turnover of 1.3 million of animals.

Vier Pfoten Austria has been in regular contact with the Austrian government in the past few month, making sure this issue remains high in the political agenda.

The organisation welcomes the decision and stays committed to continue the fight. It will be crucial to make sure the decision extends to all the livestock consignments transported from Austria to third countries.
