Carrefour and more distributers join the Animal Welfare Label Association (AEBEA), created in 2018 by LFDA, CIWF, OABA and the Casino group to offer a labeling scheme on animal welfare.

Four French animal protection NGOs (LFDA, CIWF, OABA, WELFARM), three distributors (Casino Group, Carrefour group, U stores) and poultry producers (Les Fermiers de Loué, Les Fermiers du Sud- Ouest, Galliance, Terrena), present the next step of the animal welfare labeling scheme aimed at informing the consumers in a clear and reliable way.

Two notable developments have been decided by all stakeholders:

  • Display of the farming method on the label (in the form of a pictogram)
  • A scale with 5 levels (instead of 4 initially), with the creation of a level E

This labeling provided for all products, whatever their level of range, makes it possible to give clear and reliable information to the consumer on the level of animal welfare associated with the products marketed to enable them to orient their purchases. It also encourages breeders who will be able to develop and better enhance their practices in favor of animal welfare.
