Four wild boars were killed last week in the Belgian town of Meix, 1.8 km from the French border, two of which have been found to be carriers of African swine fever.

However, the municipality is located outside the buffer zone established in Belgium, beyond the fences installed to prevent the spread of the virus. Four other wild boars fled to France, he told RTBF . " The fear that the wild boars who fled to France will be infected is therefore well-founded ".

The Walloon Ministry of Agriculture has decided to extend the observation and vigilance zone in the south west of the country an additional 3,700 hectares to the national road which links Virton-Rouvroy to the French border. A new 25.5 km mesh fence is being installed and is in addition to the 35 km already deployed in November.
