On Saturday afternoon, February 22nd, federal police officers checked an extremely fully loaded transporter with Romanian registration on the A3 motorway near Waidhaus in the Neustadt an der Waldnaab district.

When the vehicle was partially cleared to check the cargo, attention was drawn to animal noises. The officers found four sealed banana boxes and a small transport basket, among other things, hidden in the cargo, in complete darkness and with low air supply, which contained a total of 29 kittens six to ten weeks old. The cats had neither water nor food available. Not even in the transporter these essential things were carried and under these circumstances, it can be assumed that at least some of the animals transported would not have survived the trip.

The kittens, which were snatched from their mothers much too early, come from
Ukraine and were intended for buyers in Portugal. They all had neither valid papers, nor the legally required rabies vaccination protection.
