WHEN: 1st July from 13.00 to 15.00

WHERE: Outside Commission building Berlaymont in Brussels

Help to stop the slaughter of seals by taking part in a peaceful demonstration that could help end the world's largest killing of marine mammals. The European Commission is currently considering to ban the import and trade of seal products. It is vitally important that the people of Europe, who overwhelmingly support such a ban, send a clear message to the Commission. That is why Eurogroup is organising the demonstration together with IFAW, Humane Society International, GAIA and other animal welfare organisations from all over Europe.

We call for a total EU-wide ban on the import and trade of seal products (skins, oil, etc) with no exemptions.

To maximise the impact of the demonstration and to avoid the media reporting on the demonstration from a negative angle, we urge all participants to be on their best behaviour and to follow any instructions of the police and the stewards who will be there to look after people's safety.

Stop the cruelty!

275,000 seals will be killed in Canada this year alone.

98% of them will be less than three months old.

The vast majority of seals are killed before they have had a chance to experience their first swim or enjoy their first solid meal.

Up to 42% may be killed alive, according to a report by veterinarians who attended a seal hunt.

The seal hunt also takes place in countries such as Namibia and Russia.
